Spirit Rock Reservations

What is the Spirit Rock

The PCE Spirit Rock is an exciting opportunity for you to celebrate events with our community by painting your own message. This might include your student’s birthday, events, competitions, thank you’s, etc. The Spirit Rock is a fun way to spread a positive message to your student and our school community. It is located in front of the school near the portables!

How to Rent the Rock

Step 3: Paint! Spirit Rock Rules

  • Use the PCEA provided drop cloth to protect the surrounding rocks/gravel. It can be checked out from the school office during school hours. The cloth needs to be picked up no later than 3:30pm.
  • The cloth should be allowed to dry overnight and should be returned to the PCE front office the following day by 3:30pm.
  • Please respect the family before you and do not paint earlier than 4pm (see below for additional supplies and painting tips)
    • ONLY the rock may be painted
    • DO NOT paint the sidewalk or the landscape rocks or any other material surrounding the rock.
    • Please make sure that any nearby cars or school property will not be hit by overspray!
    • The individual or group will be held financially responsible for cleaning and/or repair costs associated with violation of this policy.
  • Anyone painting the rock must leave the area in clean condition. Remove all paint materials and litter from the site and be sure the paint is disposed of properly off-campus.
  • Profanity, political, and business advertising messages are not permitted.
  • Have fun!

FAQs

What supplies do I need?

Plan on using 1-2 cans of spray paint for the base coat and then additional paint (basic acrylic paint works great!) for the design. You may also want to bring painters tape, scissors, templates, chalk (to outline your design) or brushes to aid in the design as well. Don’t forget a cup of water if you are using a paintbrush! Get creative!

Painting TIPS:

  • Bring a gardening knee pad or cushion to support your knees while painting
  • Bring paper towels or wet wipes to keep your hands clean
  • The Rock is “bumpy”. A small paint brush/sponge will work best for detail work
  • A paper or plastic plate works well as a palette for paint
  • When spacing out your letters start with the middle letter and work your way out (spray paint does dry quickly so you can always re-paint and re-do any words that may not fit)
  • Get low! Hold your spray paint can level with the part of the rock you are aiming at. This helps reduce overspray.

Can the PTO paint the rock for me?

The PTO is not responsible for painting the rock. You can find someone to paint it for you, but painting the rock is fun, and we are sure that no matter what you do, the person you are painting it for will love it!

What can I reserve the rock for?

You can reserve the rock for anything!! A student’s birthday, thanking a teacher or staff member, congratulatory events, good luck on competitions and tournaments, recognizing milestones… The rock is a fun way to spread any kind of positive message. Please note that profanity, political, and business advertising messages are not permitted.Spirit Rock paintings MUST be in good taste.

PCE staff and PCEA will regularly monitor the Spirit Rock to ensure that paintings fall within the above-established guidelines. PCE has the right to remove any painting deemed inappropriate by school administration without notice to those who painted the rock.

What if I reserve the rock and the weather is bad?

The rock can be towel dried and the paint will adhere even in the rain and or snow if you want to brave the elements. If painting in the rain or snow is not your thing, revisit the calendar and reserve the next available date and email coloradopcea@gmail.com to let us know of the date change. We can also attempt to move your reservation for you. We apologize that we are unable to make refunds.
